چکیده
We consider an optimal control problem with indeenite cost for an abstract model which covers in particular hyperbolic and hyperbolic-like systems in a general bounded domain. Necessary and suucient conditions are given for the synthesis of the optimal control, which is given in terms of the Riccati operator arising from a nonstandard Riccati equation. The theory also extends a nite-dimensional frequency theorem to the innnite-dimensional setting. Applications include the damped wave equation with Dirichlet control, damped Euler-Bernoulli and Kirchoo equations with control in various boundary conditions, and the damped Schrr odinger equation with Dirichlet control.

Continuous-Time Mean-Variance Portfolio Selection: A Stochastic LQ Framework∗
This paper is concerned with a continuous-time mean-variance portfolio selection model that is formulated as a bicriteria optimization problem. The objective is to maximize the expected terminal return and minimize the variance of the terminal wealth. By putting weights on the two criteria one obtains a single objective stochastic control problem which is however not in the standard form due to...
متن کاملNonstandard explicit third-order Runge-Kutta method with positivity property
When one solves differential equations, modeling physical phenomena, it is of great importance to take physical constraints into account. More precisely, numerical schemes have to be designed such that discrete solutions satisfy the same constraints as exact solutions. Based on general theory for positivity, with an explicit third-order Runge-Kutta method (we will refer to it as RK3 method) pos...
متن کاملPositivity-preserving nonstandard finite difference Schemes for simulation of advection-diffusion reaction equations
Systems in which reaction terms are coupled to diffusion and advection transports arise in a wide range of chemical engineering applications, physics, biology and environmental. In these cases, the components of the unknown can denote concentrations or population sizes which represent quantities and they need to remain positive. Classical finite difference schemes may produce numerical drawback...
متن کاملSparse Linear-Quadratic Feedback Design Using Affine Approximation
We consider a class of `0-regularized linearquadratic (LQ) optimal control problems. This class of problems is obtained by augmenting a penalizing sparsity measure to the cost objective of the standard linear-quadratic regulator (LQR) problem in order to promote sparsity pattern of the state feedback controller. This class of problems is generally NP hard and computationally intractable. First,...
متن کاملOn the necessity of identifying the true parameter in adaptive LQ control
In adaptive control problems one may drop the requirement of identifying the true system in order to simplify the problem of control. It will be shown that in the adaptive LQ control problem this does not at all lead to an easier problem. A MS Subject Classijication: 93C40. Kqvwords: Adaptive LQ control, Closed-loop identification, Certainty equivalence.
